Samarium Oxide

(Sm2O3)

Sm2O3 is a rare-earth oxide that typically crystallizes in a cubic bixbyite structure at ambient conditions, with possible phase transitions at elevated temperatures. It is a wide band gap material with moderate basicity and good thermal stability. Sm2O3 exhibits interesting electronic and optical properties associated with the partially filled 4f orbitals of samarium, making it useful in optical and electronic applications. It is commonly employed in catalysis, particularly in acid–base and redox reactions, as well as in advanced ceramics and coatings.
